Healthy Feet Yoga Workshop - Sunday 8th April 2018

Workshop theme:
Our feet are our foundation and we sometimes forget how much hard work our feet go through each day. It is important to keep our feet strong and healthy for our posture and stability, especially as we grow older, a strong foundation is important. We will work with foot massage and exercises to connect with the toes, balls of the feet and the heels and work towards strengthening the inner arches. We will look at alignment of the feet and how this can help our posture.

We will work through poses that can help relieve achy feet and legs, including a mindful walk to connect with our feet as we move, closing with breath work and a meditative relaxation.

An introduction to Yoga for absolute beginners taster session

An introduction to Yoga for absolute beginners taster session

Workshop theme:
A short, 45 minute introduction to yoga, with a small group. We will work through a 30 minute postural practice where you can try out and become more familiar with a few of the most common postures. Although each yoga teacher and each yoga class structure is different, I am hoping this short introduction will help give you the opportunity to try out yoga in a small group setting, away from an established class.

So if you've always wanted to give yoga a go but felt a little bit worried about what to expect or unsure about joining a regular class, come along and experience a taster session.

The class will be shorter than a standard class to enable you to get an idea of what to expect without the pressure of working through a full 90 minute practice.

Being a smaller group, you will have the benefit of more tutor attention from me, so I can dedicate more time to explaining and demonstrating the postures slowly and answer any questions you may have.

Time:
• Please arrive on or around 2pm for a 2:10pm start
45 minute workshop

Pricing:
• £10 per person
• Payment is required in advance of each workshop, at least one week before

What to bring:
• I have spare mats, so if you don't own one, don't worry!
• Wear comfortable clothing for ease of movement.
• If you have a blanket and some warm layers and extra socks, please bring these for the end of practice for relaxation.
• Yoga is normally practiced barefoot for safety reasons, if you are uncomfortable taking your socks off or suffer with cold feet/foot cramps, there are 'grippy' socks available that can be picked up quite cheaply.

Details:
• Places are limited to a maximum of 6
• A minimum of 3 students will be required to run the workshop
• On the event of numbers being too low and the workshop being cancelled, you will be offered a refund or the opportunity to book a place onto another workshop

Put a spring in your step with a healthy spine! Yoga Workshop - Sunday 18th March 2018

Workshop theme:
A general overview of the basic anatomy and curvature of the spine with a focus on keeping the back strong, mobile, healthy and safe in movement during our yoga practice - particularly in backbends where the cervical and lumbar spine is most vulnerable. Understanding how we can work with and engage our abdominals to help protect the back. How we can work with alignment cues to avoid over-compressing the vertebrae at the neck and lower back while entering and holding backbends.

As we move towards Spring, we will also have an underpinning theme of renewal and growth with a link to the spine and increasing mobility and agility in our backs.

Closing with an uplifting breathing and meditation practice and a little gift of growth and renewal for all participants to take away with them, from yours truly!

Suitable for beginners as well as those with experience of yoga.

Ignite your internal fire Yoga Workshop - Sunday January 14th 2018

Ignite your internal fire Yoga Workshop - Sunday January 14th 2018

The cold weather has well and truly set in, so join me for an energising, heat building yoga practice to light your internal fire! We let go of stress in our November workshop, now let's sweat it out, get the blood pumping and remove toxins from the system and work off some of that festive food!

We'll also look at deepening our understanding of the solar plexus chakra, Manipura, the third chakra associated with the element of fire. 'Manipura' translates as 'city of jewels', where we find gems of clarity, wisdom, self-confidence and wellbeing. Their positive radiance shining down on the lower chakras and rising up to the heart chakra.

Tying in with the theme, we'll then close the workshop with a candle gazing Trataka practice, a cleansing technique for the eyes. There'll be no naked flames, but the effect will be the same!

As we are coming into the colder months of the year, please wear and/or bring extra layers, warm socks and blankets to ensure you stay warm. If your feet get cold during the workshop, you are welcome to wear socks with gripped soles. It is advisable to bring extra layers particularly during relaxation, the body needs to be warm to fully relax. As my mother always told me, you can take layers off, but you can't add them on, very wise words!

This workshop is suitable for practitioners with experience of yoga.

Stress-busting Yoga Workshop - Sunday 5th November 2017

As we move closer to what can be the busiest time of year for some, it is important to find ways to relax and make time for self care and letting go of any stressful thoughts or emotions we may be carrying around.

A certain amount of stress is needed in small amounts that is manageable. When stress becomes too much or we are in a constant state of ‘fight or flight’, stress can become harmful and unhealthy for our bodies and minds.

This workshop will delve deeper into the effects stress has on the body and how we can counteract them with yoga.

We will work through postures to relieve the body in areas that are commonly affected by stress, where we may be holding onto tension in the body and work with stress-relieving breath work. The workshop will include relaxation and mindful techniques to help us explore ways in which we can help to calm the body and mind.

Autumn Equinox Weekend Yoga Workshop - Sunday 8th October 2017

Autumn Equinox Weekend Yoga Workshop - Sunday 8th October 2017

The autumn equinox signifies balance, where the day and night are of equal length. As we gently move into autumn, watching the leaves change into golden hues of yellow, orange and red, feeling a slight chill in the air as we rise in the crisp mornings and return home to comfort and warmth in the evenings, we begin to feel drawn to the cosier things in life. But we may also feel a slight unease at the change of the season, as with change, we come into the unknown. This workshop will focus on rooting to the earth, feeling centred and balanced working through a sequence of grounding postures to help nurture and comfort our minds and bodies. An opportunity to reflect upon non-permanence and acceptance of the seasonal change. A reflective, restorative practice working on identifying subtitles in familiar poses, finding balance between comfort and effort. The physical practice will be followed by a guided breathing practice and an autumnal themed meditation.

• Please bring mats, blankets, extra layers and socks to stay warm and cosy in the breathing and mediation part of the workshop... I'll bring everything else!

• The workshop is perhaps more suited to practioners with some previous experience of yoga, but beginners will also benefit from the practice.

• The workshop will involve holding natural objects during the meditation and also may include subtle scents or incense in the room. If you have any allergies or dislikes to certain objects and fragrances, please let me know beforehand.

• Please arrive on or around 3pm for a 3:15pm start
